Mama fu doti – is about motherhood, nature and mother earth. The work consists of a series of still-lives of Surinamese fruit and vegetables printed on traditional pangi fabric from the Maroons in Suriname. The work was made in the first months during the Covid-19 lockdown in Suriname, also the first few months of Duivenvoorde’s first pregnancy.
The work was previously presented as a trilogy (Mama fu doti solo exhibition Camperstraat Amsterdam NL – 2020), in which the still-lives were linked to a series of study sketches of (pregnant) women’s bodies decorated with seeds and sketches of fruits, vegetables and plants on paper.
Currently Coco is working on a new installation/ publication (made possible by Stichting Stokroos) around the work Mama fu Doti that will be presented in September 2021 in Amsterdam.
